This painting is based on a photo I took of myself shortly after giving birth..still with extended belly, soft and empty, my breasts heavy with milk. I wanted to see that body as beautiful and ripe, rather than as something to be discarded as soon as possible to get back to my pre-pregnancy figure, as new mothers are often urged to do by the media. As if my body (or anything else in my life) was ever going to be the same again!
